LO2 - Call Sheets

LO2 - Treatment

Brief
We have been asked to create a series of photographs for a display in the millennium gallery. This will be as part of the theme of identity.

Concept Idea
Due to the theme of the series of photographs being identity I will be focusing on music as my subject. I will mainly be looking at live performances. This is as I believe that playing music is a great way to express your identity. I would be taking pictures of The Mayfairs and Ballamona performing live.

Target Audience
The target audience for my concept would be people passionate about music and the indie rock genre. Although this is a niche genre the audience for music n general is large. The images will be using instruments which can reinforce that they play and make their own music. This can appeal to people who play instruments. I believe that the age range for this series of photographs would be 16-25 year olds and predominately male.

Equipment
- Nikon D5300
- Nikon 50mm Portrait lens f / 1.8
- Hama tripod
- UV filter
- Polarising filter

Props an Models
For my shoots I will be shooting a live band. Therefore they will have instruments as props, for example: Guitars and Drums. The models will be the band members, as listed below.

The Mayfairs:
- George Vaughton
- Eddie Gray
- Callum Frazer
- Alex Harison

Ballamona:
- Ethan
- Peter Snowden
- Tom Monk

Health and Safety

- Wires / Trip hazard; make sure we are vigilant in our location
- Theft of equipment; give up possession of equipment. Make sure equipment is not unattended.
- Spilt drinks, slip hazard; correct footwear and surveying of immediate area
- Having emergency contacts who know where you are and what you're doing

Legal and ethical considerations

- I must seek permission from the band and each of the band members in order to take photos of them. This is as I am taking photos in a location rather than a public place..
- Additionally I must gain permission from the locations in which I am photographing.
- I must also think about the representations of the stereotypes that I am photographing. For example some of the connotations and associations of indie rock bands can be drugs and alcohol. I don't want to be promoting these within my portfolio. This is as my work will be displayed in a gallery setting that will be open to a large audience of all ages.
- When taking my photos I should not misrepresent any of the band members. This is as it can be defamatory.

Contingencies
- Cancellations of events or No permission to shoot/ Could shoot at band practice instead
- Not being able to use equipment / Use cameraphone as quality is good enough.

LO2 - Tester shoot at school

For this shoot I mainly looked at portraits due to the set up being available. Using a guitar as a prop i took photos of my model playing from different angles. I used a few canted angles, for example the first and third photo. I believe that this created an unusual, but interesting and striking image. The contrast on the first i believe looks good. Most of the shots were lighted with two softboxes placed low on the floor and facing up at the subject. The black background was good to contrast the subject and bring him out.

This was created with a medium aperture (F5.0) and a 1/500th shutter, using two softboxes to create the contrast on the subject.
